Lake Heron has been in the Todhunter family for 100 years is our 100th!. The original Lake Heron run was first taken up in 1857 by Messrs Leach and Dudley. These shelters were originally built to facilitate mustering gathering up of sheep. The New Hut was built in 1923 and is still the base for the 4 day autumn muster.

Seven enthusiasts recently took to their bikes for a 180km, 4 day high country cycle trip, starting and finishing at Big Al’s shop in Methven. We have lovingly restored Lake Heron Cottage, retaining much of the ingenious character, to produce luxury lofty country accommodation for guests. The Lake Heron merino ewes have all been horn and the trucks have left to start the journey to Icebreaker.
